How can I get round this? I know who the publisher is (Hewlett Packard) and I trust the publisher.

" Windows has blocked this software because it can't verify the publisher." This resulted in the message " Internet Explorer Add-on Installer - Security" The problem is that when I type in the IP address of the JetDirect in the Address box of Internet Explorer and hit Go I get a message box 'The web page you have requested is not available. I was then asked by UAC if I wanted to allow a program to run - I said that I did. This JetDirect has a Web Interface which can be used for configuration and allow the scanner part of the OfficeJet to be used from any machine on the network.

I instructed MSIE to go ahead and install it anyhow. With MSIE v11 I get the message " Internet Explorer blocked this website from installing an ActiveX control."

When I use Firefox I get the message " A plugin is needed to display this content.". However, this seems to throw up problems wit current browsers. I know that in order to allocate a fixed IP address to the 170X I can in theory use the Embedded Web Server by specifying its allocated IP address - I have done this in the past. from time to time it changes - probably because someone has switched off the Modem/Router. This address has to be supplied to any device that wants to use the printer. I want to use these to share the LaserJet on a home network.īoth work except that the LaserJet will only accept single sheets at a time and the 170X uses a dynamic IP address obtained via DHCP. I have to assume anything on eBay would be used so I would be relying on the reputation of the seller.īut separately, I assume from your answer, there are no specific steps I can take to reset the JetDirect, other than unplugging and replugging or pressing the button on the back.I have a VERY old HP JetDirect 170X External Print Server and an HP LaserJet 6L. My one concern with the eBay route is knowing whether the replacement is still working fine. I just may need toner sooner than otherwise. It had been a steady and reliable solution, and still sort of is. Of course, that happens less and less frequently these days which is why I haven't invested in an upgrade. For the moment I am just keeping sheets that have already been printed on with the error message in the bin, and then remembering to swap in fresh paper if I need to actually print.

I'm not saying there wasn't a trigger, perhaps an update of the router firmware, or a Windows update, but nothing that I can point to. I haven't changed my router in quite awhile. But I had been using it with no problem for at least eight months before this issue started.
#HP JETDIRECT 170X JAVA ISSUES WINDOWS 10#
This was a new computer that came with Windows 10 installed, purchased about a year ago.

There wasn't a particular event that I can point to. It still eventually does the reset on its own. I have tried power down and up on the JetDirect, and the printer, and using the reset button on the back of the JetDirect. I could always put in a waste sheet or two before my blank paper, but would prefer to find a solution to the reset issue. If I leave the bin empty and wait until I need to print, it will still print that out before doing the requested print job successfully. It does this every couple of days which results in a waste of paper. It then lists Registers:, Stack:, and Call Chain, which I won't reproduce here, but can take a photo and provide if necessary.

When that happens it automatically sends a signal t the printer to print a JetDirect Diagnostic page which says,Īn event has occurred that has casued the JeDirect to reset. A problem has cropped up recently where the JetDirect apparently resets. I have an HP LaserJet 6L which has been very happy working through an HP JetDirect 170X for many years through different PCs over the years and OSs.
